Every property that has a gas boiler and fire have an annual service carried out by a CORGI registered engineer on behalf of Tees Valley Housing Limited. This service is essential to prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

What is Carbon Monoxide Poisoning ?

Every year about 30 people die and over 200 suffer ill health from carbon monoxide poisoning by faulty gas appliances and boilers. It is a poisonous gas produced when a gas appliance or boiler has not been installed correctly or maintained, or when a flue or chimney has become blocked. It is often called The Silent Killer.

Why is it called The Silent Killer?

It is referred to as this name as you can’t see it, taste it or even smell it, yet it can kill without warning in just a matter of hours.

Danger Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The early symptoms include tiredness, drowsiness, headaches, nausea, pains in the chest and stomach pains. These symptoms can mimic many common ailments and may easily be confused with flu or simple tiredness.

Signs to look Out For

Never paint the boiler or gas fire fronts.

How to Arrange an Appointment

If you haven’t had a yearly inspection, or have missed your appointment please contact our Customer Service centre on 01642 261100.

Tees Valley take your safety very seriously and insist that gas safety checks are carried out every year by a CORGI approved heating engineer. These checks normally take an hour depending on the number of appliances in your property.

If following repeated attempts the contractors are unable to carry out this check then Tees Valley would have no choice but to start court procedures and apply for an injunction to force access and as a last resort even re-posses your home.

Please note a standard charge of £50 will be applied to every abortive appointment made.

Dangerous gas boilers and appliances are not only life threatening to you but also to those people living around you, this being the reason why Tees Valley would be prepared to take court action to fulfil safety obligations.
