Welcome for Projects Praise

Fabrick Housing Group has welcomed Prime Minister Gordon Brown's support for two forms of project aimed at tackling serious social issues.

In his key speech at the Labour Party Conference, Mr Brown backed Family Intervention Projects (FIPs) and schemes to assist teenage parents.

Tees Valley Housing, part of Fabrick Housing Group, which already successfully runs three FIPs and four projects to help teenage parents, has applauded Prime Minister Gordon Brown's praise for the schemes.

Tees Valley Housing has run a pioneering project in Middlesbrough for a number of years and recently followed up that success by launching FIPs in Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees.

Projects run by Tees Valley Housing in Darlington, Hartlepool, Bishop Auckland and Sunderland help young people in the months leading up to their child's birth, through to finding their feet as young parents, preparing them for independent life.

Doug Ross, managing director of Tees Valley Housing, said: "The Family Intervention Projects offer not only intensive intervention and enforcement, they also offer support and challenge families to help them change their ways for their own benefit and for the benefit of their neighbourhoods.

"We are pleased the projects have received recognition from Mr Brown as we believe these projects can have a huge impact of communities and people's quality of life.

"Likewise, it is good news that Mr Brown has spoken up for the teenage parent projects, which help to shape young families by breaking down the stigmas that are often wrongly attached to their situations and helping them to find independence from a tough start."
