Care housing aims to enable older
people to remain independent for as long as possible
by providing self contained accommodation with
support, care services and community activities
on site.
The schemes have extensive communal facilities including a guest room for visitors, a restaurant where residents are entitled to their midday meal as part of their rent, a craft shop, hairdressing facilities, a laundry and a landscaped garden.
Extra Care schemes have a dedicated care team of around 12-15 staff members who provide direct care to residents. In addition a scheme manager also runs the facility and coordinates the housing related support available on site.
Tees Valley operates two schemes. The first, Pennyman House in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, opened in summer 2007. The scheme is ideally situated in the heart of North Ormesby, adjacent to the market square and the new medical village and with easy access to local shops, bus stops and places of worship. It is available to people aged 55 or over. It has 42 apartments (11 one bedroom and 31 two bedroom), all of which are wheelchair accessible. In addition four apartments have been specially designed for wheelchair users. All the apartments have level access showers and are carpeted.
Our second scheme, Barnaby House in Eston, Redcar and Cleveland, opened in summer 2008. The scheme is ideally located close to Eston town centre with easy access to local shops, bus stops, places of worship, library and doctors. It has 40 apartments (nine one bedroom and 31 two bedroom), all of which are wheelchair accessible. In addition two apartments have been specially designed for wheelchair users. All the apartments have level access showers, washer/dryers and are carpeted.
