Young Parent's Project (Bishop Auckland)
Coney Avenue, Bishop Auckland
Coney
Avenue is a joint initiative between
Tees Valley Housing Ltd and the Wear Valley District
Council and Durham County Council.
Coney Avenue opened in September 2007, and is designed for young parents or pregnant women aged between 16-25 years old to enable them to develop life skills to eventually live more independently in the Community.
The Project is managed directly by Tees Valley Housing Ltd who will provide both the housing management and support services.
The Project consists of 9 two bedroom fully furnished apartments with access to a separate communal lounge, laundry and kitchen. Tees Valley staff are present 24 hours a day to provide tenancy support. However, there are other agencies at the scheme during the day providing specialist and complementary support to the young parents.
On average we expect to support a young parent for approximately one year. However, this will vary depending on their individual circumstances.
When the time is right, in consultation with the young parent, their key worker will implement the planned 'move on'. Part of this process will be a gradual withdrawal of support to the point where the young parent is ready for more independent living, usually through our Floating Support Scheme.
Applications can be made direct to the scheme (phone number: 01388 600177). You can download our brochure here.
